Carolyn Belle Bassler, 1942-2016

Carolyn Belle Bassler, 74, long-time resident of Tehachapi, passed away on Tuesday, Dec. 27, 2016, at Bakersfield Memorial Hospital. After a lengthy and brave struggle with lung disease, she has gone to be with the Lord.

Carolyn was born in Houston, Texas, to Thomas and Eudora Barnes on Aug. 8, 1942. She went to school in Tehachapi and met her loving husband, Lee R. Bassler at the local Beekay Theatre. They were married on July 1, 1961, in Biloxi, Miss., where Lee was stationed in the Air Force.

She was dedicated to family and loved us all unconditionally. Carolyn loved the Lord with all her heart and was a sterling example of showing faith through deeds. She was thoughtful and caring, always putting others before herself. One of her favorite things to do was gather her family together and feed them. And she knew just what comfort food we needed. Food and giving were her love languages. She loved to vacation and travel with her family, camping and fishing at Rock Creek Lake. She loved to gamble and had a system all her own. She liked to sew, craft and crochet. A notation in her bible read, “Thank you Lord for my three wonderful grandchildren.”

Thank you for always praying for us “Gma,” we know that many of those prayers were answered.

Carolyn is preceded in death by her parents Tom and Eudora Barnes, her brothers Tom and David Barnes, her sister Erma Thomas, and nephew Daniel Coon.

Carolyn is survived by her husband Lee Bassler, daughter Carie Pollick and husband Tony, son Lee Bassler and wife Rhonda, sister Beverly Moon, sister-in-law Betty Barnes, brother-in-law Melvin Bassler and wife Kathy, grandchildren Andrew Bassler, Victor Cerda and fiance’ Brooke Broyles, and Paige Mills and husband Justin. As well as numerous nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and great great nieces and nephews.

Viewing was on Monday, Jan. 2, 2017, from 5 to 7 p.m. Services were held Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2017, at 11 a.m. at Wood Family Funeral Service, Inc., 321 W. F St.
