Chris Laing was born on Oct. 12, 1938, and passed away Oct. 13, 2017, following a lengthy illness with pancreatic cancer. He was married to Linda Laing and has a son, Jason Laing, in Los Angeles.
Chris grew up in Pendleton, Ore., and went to college at Oregon State University, receiving a degree in mechanical engineering. He had a successful career and continued working on engineering projects following his retirement.
In his younger days, he and his friends enjoyed spending time in Baja California, checking out the sights on their motorbikes.
Later in life, he discovered fitness and could be found running 5Ks in a number of areas including Tehachapi and San Diego. He took a special interest in beating runners who were younger than he. On the wall in his office are 48 medals from his races.
He also enjoyed hiking, and, for years, he and his friends made an annual trek both up and down Mount Whitney in one day.
About six months ago, Chris was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. He waged a good fight, but this cancer was extremely difficult to overcome and unfortunately he lost the battle.
He will be missed by all who knew him.
