Edgar Molten Shuster, of Tehachapi, passed away peacefully at home on Dec. 1, 2016, at 6:05 p.m. He was 97.
Ed was born in Apollo, Pa., to Molten and Ireta Shuster (Riggle) on June 16, 1919.
He earned a degree in engineering from Carnegie Institute of Technology (now Carnegie Mellon University) in Pittsburgh, Pa., and later earned his master’s degree in mechanical engineering. He served in the United States Army from 1942 until the end of World War II. Ed was a decorated service member who received numerous awards including Good Conduct Medal, American Theater Ribbon, World War II Victory Ribbon, EAME Theater Ribbon and a Bronze Service Star.
Following his service in the U.S. Army, Ed worked as an engineer for more than 40 years in the steel and cement industries. He assisted in opening the U.S. Steel, Pittsburg, Calif., plant, worked for California Portland Cement and served as president and head engineer of Portland De Mallorca Cement in Palma de Mallorca, Spain. When he returned to the United States, he worked at various California Portland Cement locations and eventually began traveling the globe trouble shooting at cement companies across the world. He finished his successful career at Monolith Cement Company in Tehachapi. His passion for the industry inspired him to continue working as a cement consultant throughout his retirement. He received numerous awards and honors in the cement manufacturing industry.
Ed was involved in the Masonic Lodge and the Shriners. He enjoyed time with family and friends, antique cars, gardening and westerns.
Ed is predeceased by his wife, Evelyn Shuster (Turner); his daughter, Cathleen Kilgore; his brother, Harold Shuster; and his parents, Molten and Ireta Shuster.
He is survived by his son, David Shuster; his sisters, Dorothy Coleman and Virginia Goodrich; his brother, James Shuster; his grandsons, Trevor and Mark Shuster; his granddaughters, Danna Nibre and Susannah Welsh; and many nieces, nephews and great grandchildren.
The visitation will be held at Wood Family Funeral Service, 321 W. F St., Tehachapi, on Dec. 15, 2016, from 5 to 8 p.m.
The funeral service will be held at Wood Family Funeral Service on Dec. 16, 2016, at 10 a.m. Burial to follow at Tehachapi Public Cemetery — Eastside, 820 Burnett Road, Tehachapi, Calif., 93561.
