After a 15-year battle with myasthenia gravis, Franklin William (Bill) Bauer died at home on Sept. 14, 2017.
Bill, 87, was born in Rockford, Ill., on March 19, 1930, to Franklin William Bauer and Hazel Jane Bauer. His father died two weeks before his birth, so he was raised by his mother and two older sisters.
After completing his education in the Rockford schools, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served in the Korean Conflict, where he was awarded the Bronze Star.
He met and married Lynne Griffiths, who was attending Rockford College. They married in 1957 and moved to Los Alamitos, Calif., where they spent the next 35 years. Their daughter, Lisa Lynne, was born in 1964. In 1994, they moved to Bear Valley Springs, where they enjoyed the next 23 years.
Bill is survived by his wife of 60 years, Lynne; daughter and son-in-law, Lisa and Kirk Newman; and in his eyes, the three greatest grandchildren in the world, Ryker Lawrence Newman, Shelby Lynne Newman, and Wyatt Franklin Newman. He was much loved.
Bill will be interred at 12:30 p.m. Sept. 28, 2017, at the Bakersfield National Cemetery. Any friends who wish to join our small family at this short, military service will be most welcome.
Arrangements were made with the assistance of Wood Family Funeral Service, Inc. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Tehachapi Mountain Branch of AAUW Scholarship Fund. AAUW Tehachapi Mountain Branch, P.O. Box 273, Tehachapi, CA 93561. 661-473-4669, email@example.com.
