Ilo Norene Kirk, 1922–2017

Ilo Norene Kirk was born Oct. 9, 1922, in Wichita, Kan., and went to sleep in Jesus at home in Tehachapi, Calif., on Sept. 1, 2017, at the age of 94.

Ilo grew up on a farm in Argonia, Kan., where she often rode to school on horseback with her brother. She loved farm life, and as a young girl participated in farming chores, including herding the cows along the side of the road to graze. She attended Southwestern College in Winfield, Kan., and later beauty college.

She and her husband, Paul Kirk, were married for 49 1/2 years before his passing, and they raised three wonderful sons. When the boys were young, Ilo helped support the family with her beauty shop, which was in the front portion of their home in Wichita. In 1961, the family moved to Simi Valley. Ilo worked in the aircraft industry for many years, until she retired to care for both, her elderly mother and mother-in-law.

Ilo loved gardening and always had a beautiful yard. She enjoyed cooking, and made wonderful pies and other goodies, and always had a full candy dish for the grandchildren. Ilo was dearly loved by her family and everyone who knew her. She had a sweet loving spirit and a kind gentle heart.

Ilo loved the Lord and served Him faithfully all her life. She was a wonderful Christian example to her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and everyone she met. She had many stories to tell about growing up, and her home was filled with family pictures and memories of ancestors. Ilo and Paul enjoyed camping with the family and “rock hounding,” bringing home special finds from their adventures.

Ilo moved to Tehachapi in 2001 to be near her children, Larry and Linda Kirk. She was a member of the First Baptist Church, and lived in her own home until the age of 93. During those years she enjoyed working in her yard, keeping her own home, spending time with her family, and always had a 1,000-piece puzzle in progress on the dining room table.

Ilo was preceded in death by her parents, Lauron and Myrtle (Phillippi) Martin; husband, Paul Kirk; youngest son, Don Dale Kirk; and brother, Delmar Martin. She is survived by her children, Larry and Linda Kirk of Tehachapi, Byron and Jeannie Kirk of Simi Valley, Jaci and Paul Long of Auburn; grandchildren, Terry and Angie Kirk, Lauron Kirk, Lisa and Mike Molia, Lane Kirk, Adam and Jackie Kirk; great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn Kirk, Sammy and Abby Molina; nieces, a nephew, and many wonderful friends.

We praise the Lord for the wonderful years we shared, and are looking forward to Jesus coming soon where we can be with our beloved family members for eternity.

A celebration of Ilo’s life will be held on Sept. 9, 2017, at 3 p.m., at the Tehachapi Seventh-day Adventist Church, and she will be laid to rest in Fair Oaks, Calif.
