Lawman Hylton Francis was born on June 21, 1933, in Petersfield, in the Parish of Westmoreland, on the beautiful island of Jamaica, West Indies. He was the youngest of six siblings.
He studied at the West Indies School of Public Health in Kingston, Jamaica, and worked for many years as a public health inspector with the Ministry of Health in Jamaica. He later migrated to the United States of America where he met and married the beautiful Ida Mae Spencer in 1964.
He lived in Los Angeles for more than 30 years with his wife, Ida, and children, Brenda, Garland and Michael, before moving to Bear Valley Springs. He was very well known in the community for his work as director and president of the Bear Valley Springs Community Council. He worked with California Edison Company for many years, was a very savvy businessman with a real estate broker’s license and also a notary public in the State of California.
Lawman loved traveling and hardly missed a family wedding in Canada where he enjoyed partying with family and friends. He also loved to take vacations in Jamaica and hang out with his childhood buddies at the beach and at parties.
After fighting numerous health challenges, Lawman was called home by his Lord and Maker to be at rest on Nov. 7, 2017 leaving behind daughter, Brenda Rock; sons, Garland Spencer, and Michael Francis; grandchildren, Jamie Grandison, Garland Spencer Jr., Kevin Francis, and Fantasia Francis; great-grandson, Jullien Grandison; six nieces in Canada, Verona, Sandra, Marcia, Jennifer, Sharon Geneve, and Wendy Duke in California; nephew, Oliver Francis in England and Harold Francis in Jamaica; sister-in-law, Bernice Watson; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be held Friday, Nov. 17, 2017, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Wood Family Funeral Service, 321 W. F St. Services will be held on Saturday, Nov. 18, 2017, at 9:30 a.m., at Shepherd of the Hills Church, 24300 Bear Valley Road, Tehachapi, with Pastor Jeff Kaplan officiating at the services. Interment follows at Inglewood Park Cemetery, in Inglewood, Calif. Arrangement for funeral managed by Wood Family Funeral Service, Inc.
