Manuel was born on May 16, 1951, in San Jose, Calif., to Manuel and Orphelinda Sandoval. He graduated from San Jose High School with high honors and with a full academic scholarship to Stanford University. He graduated from Stanford in 1973, and shortly after he met his future wife, Yolanda. They married Dec. 20, 1975, and they remained married for 41 years, until his death. In 1977 their first child was born and later three more kids would follow. In 1987 he and his family moved from the big city life to the country life of Tehachapi. He was also a lifetime teacher and it reflected in his career path. He retired from the CCI education department in December 2016.
Manuel was a modest man and he enjoyed watching educational programs, “The Big Bang Theory,” “Jeopardy,” “Game of Thrones,” reading, and traveling. Above all, he loved his family and Sand Canyon/Tehachapi. He was smart, silly, and he would refer to himself as “persnickety,” especially if he found cilantro in his food, or if a dish didn’t measure up to mom’s cooking. Manuel will be greatly missed, but not forgotten.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the relief efforts for the recent hurricanes, or a donation to Saint Vincent de Paul Society of Tehachapi.
