Marshall Harrington Anderson Jr. was born May 12, 1926, in Glendale, Calif., and passed away on Nov. 23, 2017, in Bakersfield, Calif., at the age of 91.
Marshall grew up in Glendale where he met Sally Webster in high school. They were married in Santa Barbara on May 22, 1948. They raised their family of five children in several different communities depending on where his job as a produce broker took the family.
A member of the United States Navy during World War II, Marshall was able to achieve a degree from USC in the V12 program. After the war, he was active in the Western Growers Association and the United Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Association where he served as president.
In his retirement, Marshall and Sally made Bear Valley Springs their home where they enjoyed golf, tennis and observing the birds and other wildlife in the area. They were charter members of Bear Valley Church. Marshall was very active in the church and community. He served faithfully on the Elder Board and other committees in the church. In the community, he served as president of the Bear Valley Springs Men’s Golf Club, Bear Valley Springs Association (1980, 1998) and the Bear Valley Springs Community Services District.
Marshall enjoyed singing in the church choir and loved studying for and leading church and home Bible studies. Camping trips and appreciating God’s beautiful creation were especially enjoyable to him. As a family, we fondly remember the many trailer, houseboat and sailboat vacations which included nature watching, fishing and wonderful campfire meals. Marshall and Sally continued traveling with their trailer for many years, exploring Canada, Mexico, Alaska and the rest of the United States.
Marshall was very proud of his family which included his wife, Sally; children Sue (Rick) Wehmueller, Tom (Risё) Anderson, Dave (Aly Crosby) Anderson, Sharon (Craig) Brubaker, and Nancy (Mike) Hale; 17 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.
Special thanks to Optimal Home Health and Hoffman Hospice both of Bakersfield for their special care of Marshall.
