Michael Frederick Kammerer, 1939–2017

Mike was born July 13, 1939, in Los Angeles, and passed away peacefully at his home in Tehachapi on April 15, 2017. Mike graduated from Antelope Valley High School in 1958. He enjoyed playing on the A.V. High School football team and the A.V. Sidewinders semi-pro football team after graduation.

He married his first wife, Joan Stacey, in 1958. Mike and Joan had two children, Jeffrey and Julie. He began working at Lockheed Aircraft in 1958 as a timekeeper, and after 35 years, he retired as a flight line manager in 1994. The majority of his time at Lockheed was with the Advanced Development Skunk Works, on programs including T-33, F104, Germany, Italy, Canada and U.S.A., SR71, F117, and several models of the U2. His career included overseas deployments.

Mike married Lois Ann Peck in 1977, and together they raised five children: Jeff and Julie Kammerer, and Tony, Angela and Marilee Peck. The family enjoyed many camping trips over the years. They were blessed with seven grandchildren, Demi, Rylee, and Avery Bishop of California; Jenna Clever of North Carolina; and Breelyn, Luke and Jake Bowe of Colorado. Upon Mike’s retirement in 1994, he and Lois moved to Big Bear Lake, Calif., where they lived for five years before settling in Tehachapi.

Mike enjoyed camping, boating, fishing, barbecuing, football and NASCAR. His favorite place to camp and fish was Silver Lake Resort in June Lake. He was an active member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church of Tehachapi since 2001.

Mike always had a great sense of humor and was very well liked by friends and co-workers, some of whom were his friends to the end of his life. Mike especially liked this poem by Delmar Pepper:

Gone Fishin’

I’ve finished life’s chores assigned to me,

So put me on a boat headed out to sea.

Please send along my fishing pole

For I’ve been invited to the fishin’ hole.

Where every day is a day to fish.

To fill your heart with every wish.

Don’t worry or feel sad for me,

I’m fishin’ with the Master of the sea.

We will miss each other for a while,

But you will come and bring your smile.

That won’t be long you will see,

‘Til we’re together you and me.

To all those that think of me,

Be happy as I go out to sea.

If others wonder why I’m missin’

Just tell ‘em I’ve gone fishin’.

A memorial service will be held for Mike at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 329 S. Mill St., Tehachapi, on Sunday, April 23, 2017, at 3 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Good Shepherd Scholarship Fund. Final disposition will be at a later date in the Eastern Sierras.
