Mike lost his two-and-a-half-year battle with melanoma cancer and passed July 6, 2017, peacefully at home with his loving wife, son, and his sister by his side.
Mike was born in 1963 to Edward and Gloria Walsh. Eleven months later, his “Irish twin sister” Kelly Walsh was born. They lived their childhood in Quartz Hill, Calif., raising animals for 4-H and selling them at the Antelope Valley Fair. His family spent vacations on the road in a truck and camper exploring the U.S. The beach is where Mike found the most peace. His ashes will join his mother and father.
In 1981, Mike graduated from Quartz Hill High School. In 1986, Mike met the love of his life, Sharon Willingham, and she became his wife in 1988. The two lived in Lancaster, Calif., and Mike later graduated from Antelope Valley College. Mike worked construction and loved to see his handiwork come to completion. The couple moved to Tehachapi, Calif., in 2000 and called it “home.” Mike built many homes throughout the area and leaves a legacy behind.
There was nothing that brought Mike more joy than to share his gift with others. Mike would take a few weeks every year and donate his time. He traveled to the Philippines, Mexico, Belgium, Trinidad, Dominican Republic, and many towns throughout California building schools and churches. Today many kids hear God’s Message, get a meal and schooling due to his efforts to give back and pay it forward.
In 2001, the Walshes began the journey to expand their family, and Cameron Walsh was adopted; later Justin Walsh. In Mike’s last days, his son Cameron brought him great joy, and it was a gift to both parents.
