Ronald Frank Reed, 1937-2017

Ronald Frank Reed, 80, died May 4, 2017, in Tehachapi, Calif.

A viewing will be held May 16, 2017, from 5-7 p.m. at Wood Family Funeral Service. On Wednesday, May 17, 2017, at 10:45 a.m., interment will be at Bakersfield National Cemetery, located at 30338 E. Bear Mountain Blvd., Arvin, Calif. Following burial, a memorial service will begin at 1 p.m. at Country Oaks Baptist Church, officiated by Pastor Brent Whitney.

Ronald was born to Burrell and Alice Ward Reed on Feb. 4, 1937, in Bakersfield, Calif. He married his high school sweetheart, Edris Gollihar, on July 20, 1958. For 51 years, he worked as a cement truck driver, with 26 of them most recently for Wade Trucking. At the age of 72, he was reluctant to retire from his beloved career.

Following graduation from Bakersfield High School in 1955, he served in the United States Army. He was stationed in Germany and was honorably discharged in 1958.

Ronald was raised in Twin Oaks, Calif., on a family cattle ranch, where he gained a love for outdoor activities such as ranching, hunting, camping, hiking and the mountains. He was an avid hunter, and family knew not to schedule important events such as weddings or babies during hunting season.

Surviving Ronald are his wife, Edris; his only brother, Warner Reed (Gloria); children, Darla Rea (Paul), Dale Reed, and Tilden Reed (Theresa); grandchildren, Jason, Nathan, Douglas and Bonnie Rea, Tiffany Cordier, Taylor Grantham, and Katelyn Reed. He also had nine great-grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Burrell and Alice Reed; and sister-in-law, Nell.
