Sharon Ardelle Churchill, a 32-year resident of Tehachapi, passed away peacefully in her home on Feb. 7, 2017, at the age of 77, after a long battle with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).
She was a beloved friend, daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, and will be greatly missed by all. She was born in Springfield, Ohio, in 1939 to Ardelle and Paul Robert Patterson. She was a 1957 graduate of Polytechnic High School in Long Beach, and then attended Marinello’s Cosmetology School and obtained her license in 1959.
She worked in the beauty care and management business for 19 years. She married Francis John in 1959, and they had a beautiful daughter, Christine, before divorcing in 1965. In 1967, she married the love of her life, Norman Churchill, and together they had a wonderful daughter, Lisa, and a loving son, Jason. They were happily married for 42 years until Norm’s passing in 2009.
After moving to Thousand Oaks in 1984, she became a grocery clerk and continued working for 12 years before retiring. The family moved to Tehachapi in 1984, where she had a passion for breeding and raising Arabian horses at their small ranch in Bear Valley Springs. After retirement, she became an immensely important caregiver to her special needs grandson, Kyle, whom she loved with all her heart and doted on until the end. Sharon and Norm loved to travel and took many cruises, including trips to Hawaii, Alaska and the Panama Canal. They also made frequent road trips to Laughlin, Nev. She was a dedicated fan to just about every sport that existed, and she enjoyed shopping at home from Shop NBC.
Sharon is survived by her brother, Richard Patterson of Riverside; daughter, Christine Wilsey and husband, David, of Riverside; daughter, Lisa Churchill-Shippey and husband, Daniel, of Tehachapi; son, Jason Churchill and wife, Jennifer, of Colorado Springs, Colo.; 10 grandchildren, Ashley Lindahl, Cameron Wilsey, Shannara Roberts, Dustin Churchill, Jonathan, Kaitlin, Seth and Ephraim Churchill, Kyle Crandall and Daniel Shippey; eight great-grandchildren, Ella, Jacob and Ivory Lindahl, Kristopher, Trinity and Jonathan Roberts, and Bevin and Aurora Churchill.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ardelle and Paul Robert Patterson; husband, Norman Churchill; and son, Richard Churchill.
We would like to give heartfelt thanks to Patty Mitchell, Taylor and staff, and the Optimal Hospice staff for the loving care you all showed our mother in her last days.
