Theresa Guadalupe (Marez) Ahonen, 56, and Reed Anderson Ahonen, 58, both longtime residents of Tehachapi, went to be with the Lord on April 24, 2017, and are now together in death as in life.

Theresa and Reed were married in 1987 in Reseda, Calif. They made their home in the San Fernando Valley for a while and then moved to Tehachapi, Calif., to be near Theresa's mother. They loved living in Tehachapi because of the cool breezes and the four seasons that move through the valley. They considered Tehachapi their perfect home.

Theresa was born in Encino, Calif., to Nick and Ruth (Mendoza) Marez and was the fourth of six children raised in Simi Valley, Calif. Theresa was very active in her early life and enjoyed playing sports like softball and soccer. Theresa's first job was with the U.S. Post Office sorting mail at night, then was the account manager for a janitorial supply company. She lived with multiple sclerosis for most of her adult life but always had a smile on her face and was eager to say hello to everyone. She definitely left an imprint on everyone she met. Theresa was a longtime member of the Tehachapi TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) group and would speak about the importance of eating right to lose weight the healthy way.

Reed was born in Berkeley, Calif., to Ronald and LeVonne (Andersen) Ahonen and was the younger of two sons, raised in Woodland Hills, Calif. Reed's aptitude for music led to his participation in marching band at El Camino High School. During his summers in Twain Harte, Calif., his love for the outdoors was evidenced by his fondness for fishing and camping.

Theresa is survived by her older brother Larry Marez, his wife, Melanie, and daughter Sharon, older sister Connie Marez, younger sister Angela {Marez) and her husband, Tim Wedel, and their daughter, Sara, and son, Garrett, younger brother Nick Marez and his wife, Darcie, and their daughter, Elizabeth, and niece Debra (Marez) Samules and her sons Alexander and Getty and nephew, David Marez. Theresa is preceded in death by her father, Nick, and mother, Ruth Marez, and her older brother, Alfred (Fred) Marez.

Reed is survived by his father, Ronald Ahonen, his brother, Rick Ahonen, wife, Betti, his nieces Alexandra and Ashley, and his nephew, Andrew. Reed and Theresa loved all their nieces and nephews as their own and will be adored in eternity.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, May 26, at St. Malachy Catholic Church, 407 W. E St. in Tehachapi.

We ask that in lieu of flowers that you make donations in Theresa's memory to the Multiple Sclerosis Society at www.nationalmssociety.org/Chapters/MAM/Donate and in Reed's memory to the American Diabetes Association www.diabetes.org/donate. Theresa and Reed will be missed, but our memories of them will live on with us forever.
