Virginia Louise Collier, 1940–2017

Virginia Louise Collier, 1940–2017

Virginia Louise Collier went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Nov. 28, 2017.

Many of her family members and close friends knew her as Polly, a nickname given by her grandfather, who referred to her as Pollywog when her mother was pregnant. Polly was born to Olleta on Feb. 15, 1940, in Indio, Calif., and lived there through most of her childhood.

Her mother and stepfather, Floyd Oliver, were married when she was 9, and he treated Polly and the rest of her family as any good father would throughout his life. Polly attended Tehachapi High School, graduating in 1958, and then attended Bakersfield College for nursing for a year before she left to help her mother take care of her siblings.

Roy Collier married Polly in 1961, and they started their family and began their interior design business, The Remnant Shop, in Bakersfield, Calif.

In 1980, Roy and Polly opened Interiors Plus in Tehachapi, Calif. The move to Tehachapi led to major involvement in First Baptist Church, where Roy's father was a cofounder. Here, Polly was enabled to follow her heart's calling: children's ministry. Polly loved working with children more than anything else and would do everything she could to make a child feel welcome. It was her joy in life to spread the Word of Christ to the least of these.

After four years, they sold the business and opened R&P Designs, where she managed the business and designed window coverings for many projects in town. Their business was well-known throughout the community and continued after Roy's passing in 2007. Eventually, Polly had to close R&P Designs, but even in doing so, she trusted that God would provide everything she would need.

Polly was a talented baker, a faithful woman, a meticulous decorator, a helpful teacher, and a kind friend. She was very wise and always gave well-reasoned advice to those who needed it. She enjoyed spending time with her family and would go out of her way to help them. Above all, she trusted the Lord wholeheartedly and relied on Him for everything she needed. Despite fears of what the future might hold, she would always remember God in everything she did.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Floyd and Olleta Oliver; her brother, Roger Oliver; and her husband, Roy Collier. She is survived by her siblings, Ron Oliver, Don Oliver, and Rheanna Hilton; her children, Rena Ramage and Allen Collier and his wife, Jodie; and her grandchildren, Erika Collier, Logan Collier, Mariah Ramage, and Nathan Collier; and many nieces and nephews.

A Viewing will be held Wednesday, Dec. 6, 5 to 8 p.m., at Wood Family Funeral Service Chapel. Funeral services will be held on Friday, Dec. 8, 11 a.m., at Summit Christian Fellowship, 414 S. Curry St. in Tehachapi. A graveside service will immediately follow at Tehachapi Public Cemetery – Eastside.
