1952 – 2012
Karen Jean Smith of Tehachapi passed away in her home on Monday, Nov. 5. Karen was born in Bakersfield on June 9, 1952, to David Henry and Florence Jean Langston Youngblood. Karen was a former employee at Albertson’s Express. She met many friends working there; many remember her as the “Little Feisty One”.
Tehachapi held many friends for Karen, including her special friends Jeanine and Ginger. She always kept up with their families and enjoyed many events with all of them. Also special to her were her co-workers at Albertson’s; too many to name all of them, but please know that she did love her friends as much as her family.
Karen is survived by her two daughters, Janis Guy and Lisa Brown and her husband, Scottie; two granddaughters, Sara and Katie; two sisters, Alena Messer and her husband, Phil, and Sharon Patterson and her husband, Mike, all of Tehachapi; brother, Kenny Youngblood and his wife, Linda of Washington. She also had many relatives with whom she was close. Tehachapi family Shirley and Don Graves, her aunt and uncle; very special cousins, Teresa Sanchez and her husband, Joel; and their children, BreAnna and Kevin; nephew John Messer and his fiancé, Jodi Rankin; nieces, Cindy, Nicole, and Jenna Price, and Angela and Jasmine Escalona; and her nephew, Zachary Patterson. Also included are her niece, Cathy Medovich and her children, Ryan, Amelia, and Anthony of Lemoore and an uncle, Dwight Langston and his wife, Judy of Bakersfield. She was preceded in death by Terry Smith, her husband of 23 years, her parents, two younger brothers, Steven and Alan Youngblood, and most recently her beloved brother, David. These are only a few of her family members.
A memorial service was held on Friday, Nov. 9 at the Wood Family Funeral Service Chapel. Father Was Clare officiated the service. A private inurnment service will be held later at Tehachapi Public Cemetery – Eastside. For condolences please visit www.woodmortuary.net.
