James Theodore "Ted" Collins, 1919 – 2014
James Theodore "Ted" Collins
1919 – 2014
James Theodore "Ted" Collins was 95 years young when he entered into eternal life with the Lord on April 7, 2014, in his Tehachapi home.
Ted was preceded in death by his former wife of 40 years, Ula Gene Collins. Ted is survived by his present wife, Dorothea, having just celebrated their 13th wedding anniversary a week before his passing. Ted and Dorothea have eight children between them, more grandchildren than anyone you know, and even more great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. How Ted could remember all their names frankly is a testimony to his intelligence, patience and never ending love.
Ted was born in Cheek, Okla., and relocated to Shafter as a child during the "Dust Bowl" migration. He graduated from Shafter High School where he lettered in Track and Field. He was a WWII veteran, serving in the United States Army. He spent 20 plus years as a wire line operator and project manager for Occidental Petroleum. Ted was a member of many local clubs throughout the years and an active parishioner at Christian Life Assembly of God in Tehachapi, serving as a church deacon, a prayer warrior, and usher.
Ted was a regular at Kelcy's restaurant where he met up with the boys for coffee, biscuits and gravy, and good fellowship.
A memorial service will be held in Ted's honor at the Wood Family Funeral Service chapel at 321 West F Street in Tehachapi, on Wednesday the 16th of April, at 11 a.m. Following the memorial service, Ted will be laid to rest at Tehachapi Public Cemetery - Eastside. All Tehachapi residents who knew and loved Ted are encouraged to attend this celebration of one man's wonderful life.
