Gregory Anthony Lagutaris, 1931 – 2014
Gregory Anthony Lagutaris
1931 – 2014
Gregory Anthony Lagutaris, a 34-year resident of the area, entered into rest at his home on May 2, 2014. He was 82 years old.
Gregory was born on June 2, 1931, in Bell to parents Anthony George and Ella B. (Ohlhausen) Lagutaris. The family moved to Catalina during World War II. He said it was the perfect place for a young boy to grow up. They could do anything as long as they stayed out of the military's way. There were no tourists during this time. A Coast Guard pass was required in order to get on the island. He graduated from Santa Ana High School.
A self-made man, Gregory was able to retire at age 48. Another great achievement: He raised three girls with no major problems.
Gregory spent many years in the garage making this and that, and just puttering. He liked working with wood. His most favorite saying when asked, "What do you do?" His reply, "I'm a time waster."
Preceding Gregory in death were his parents and his great-granddaughter, Krista Jorgensen. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Jeanne Lagutaris; daughters, Deborah Lagutaris of Oakland, DeAnn Tracy and her husband, Dale of Orland, and Kimberly Worrell and her husband, Mike of Westminster; grandchildren, Scott Ashton, Jennifer Quintero, Wendy Jorgensen, Robin Adefuin, Danyelle Tracy, Justin Worrell, and Jamie Worrell; great-grandchildren, Wyatt Jorgensen, Cody Jorgensen, Carsen Quintero, and Nicolas Quintero; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
A Celebration of Life has been scheduled for Saturday, May 10, 2014, at 1 p.m. at the Tehachapi Moose Lodge. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations in Gregory's memory be made to the Tehachapi High School Scholarship Fund; or to the charity of your choice. Wood Family Funeral Service is handling the arrangements. For condolences please visit woodmortuary.net.
