Robert Conrad Amstead
1915 – 2012
Robert Amstead passed away peacefully on Thursday, Dec. 20, at Emeritus in Bakersfield. He was 97 years old.
Mr. Amstead was born on June 15, 1915, in Holtville. It was in Holtville that he met Roberta Estelle Lambert, his wife-to-be, and they soon married in Yuma, Ariz. It was there that their only son, Robert Renn Amstead was born.
Robert worked on building Naval Ships during World War II in Long Beach. After the war, Robert moved to Modesto, and worked for the phone company. He retired from there and moved to Tehachapi, where he lived for the last 20 years.
Robert is survived by his son, Robert “Renn” Amstead and his wife, Laura; and his brother, Wilbur. Robert is also survived by his grandson, Robert Renn Amstead, II; his granddaughter, Kelley Renee Chilcott; his great-grandsons, Kody Gage Chilcott, Robert “Trey” Renn Amstead, III, and Jackson Dillion Amstead; his great-granddaughters, Karson Jane Chilcott, and Kenna Lee Chilcott.
Robert was prepared to go and see his wife, Roberta, of 63 years, who preceded him in death in 2001. Robert was a man of God and a true gentleman to all who knew him. He was the advisor and co-worker for his son on many home projects, and Robert will be greatly missed.
A funeral was held on Friday, Dec. 28, at Wood Family Funeral Service Chapel.
