Gary Dean Wilder
Feb. 21, 1936 - June 1, 2012
Gary Wilder was born February 21, 1936 in Tupman. He is survived by his high school sweetheart and wife of 58 years, Wanda as well as children Deborah Nichols/Darrell of Cal City, Darlene Kalan of Bakersfield, Danell Hauck/Daniel of Tehachapi and Dean Wilder/Lacy of Phoenix, Ariz. Also, grandchildren Jason, Alicia, Jennifer/Drew, Leah/Todd, Shanda, Tiffany, Dillon, Brianna, Zachary, Natalie and Kallista. Also surviving are great grandchildren Shelby, Claire, Hannah and Megyn.
An avid gardener and painter for most of his life, Gary strove to bring God's beauty to his canvas and his gardens. He took great pleasure in the outdoors, camping, fishing and could always be found gardening, planting, fixing a tire swing... anything to bring joy to his children and grandchildren.
When not in the garden, Gary could be found in his studio. From his early photo-realism to his later more impressionistic style, he always painted areas he loved -- the desert, mountains and ocean.
His love for painting and art didn't stop when he was diagnosed with Parkinson's 17 years ago and his works have been exhibited in numerous public and private collections and in art galleries from Palm Springs to Carmel.
Gary started in the banking industry when he was 18 and retired as an executive vice president. After retiring, he pursued painting full-time at his Alpine Forest home studio.
His relationships with his family and the community were important to him, but most important was his relationship with Jesus Christ his Savior.
