Edward D. Alford
Edward D. Alford of Tehachapi passed away Jan. 16. He was born Nov. 19, 1935 in Chandler, Okla. and came to Salinas as a small child.
He attended schools in Salinas.
Ed is survived by his loving, caregiver wife of 38 years, Jan. He was a heart and kidney transplant patient and much loved by all his caregivers which were many.
His loving children will miss him very much.They are: James Alford of Grover Beach, Lonnie (Lisa) Alford of Santa Barbara, Karen Marshall of Fayettville, Ark., Alan (Jenny) Alford of Galt, Debbie (Dex) Dexter of Ozark, Mo., step-son Kenny (Diane) Gunlock, and daughter-in-law, Cheryl Gunlock of Gathenburg, Neb.
He has 11 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Ed was preceded in death by father Otis Alford, mother Mildred Austin, step-mother Willie Alford, sister Donna Anderson, and step-son Daniel Gunlock.
He was an avid car buff owning his own business for several years-Chasis Engineering in Lompoc. He designed and built custom cars of all kinds. He also was a car salesman and in the 1980s got his contractors license and built custom homes and condos in Nipomo until he became disabled.
He was very proud of his totally restored '35 Ford Touring Sedan and loved Ms. Kittie very much. He loved reading about the Civil War.
Many, many family members will miss his wide smile and presence; but we all know he is in a better place and free of pain.
Cremation has taken place and family services to be decided.
