Jo Ann "Ann" Bentley Thompson, 79, of Tehachapi, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 15, 2014, at Mercy Hospital in Bakersfield, of cancer.

Ann was born June 17, 1934, in Rush Springs, Okla., to Willard DeLeon Bentley and Cora Lee Mills Bentley. The family moved to Arvin, in 1947.

After High School, Ann was briefly married to Richard Arvizu and had two children, Brenda and Richard Arvizu.
On April 11, 1955, she married Kenneth Thompson and moved to Tehachapi where she had two more children, Kennette (Kay) and Karen Thompson. The family moved to Bakersfield in 1959. Ann enjoyed being a stay at home Mom and was very active in her children's 4-H, Little League and many other activities. She was an excellent seamstress, gardener and cook.

In 1973, Ann, Kenneth, Kay and Karen moved to Dubois, Idaho where Ann worked as a bookkeeper. After Kenneth's death in 1989, Ann divided her time between Tehachapi and Idaho Falls, Idaho. While in Tehachapi, she worked as manager of the Calaveras Credit Union until she retired in 1992.

After retirement, Ann spent her time sewing, crocheting, playing Bingo, and going to yard sales. She loved playing cards with her grandchildren, listening to music and watching football, Nascar, and golf on TV.

Ann Thompson is survived by her children, Brenda (John) Church of Tehachapi; Richard Arvizu of Coos Bay, Ore.; Kay (Andy) Ogden of Nampa, Idaho; and Karen (Mike) Mann of Idaho Falls, Idaho. She is also survived by her 10 grandchildren, Richard, Jeremy, and Tyler Church; Chris Ogden and Erin Green; Kari Peterson and Michael Monson; Jack Thompson, Diane Thompson, Krystal Arvizu and 10 great grandchildren, John, Garet, Bryce, Nia, Breale, George, Xavier, Gavin, Addisyn and Skylynne.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters Mary Lou Chambers, Betty Sue Middleton and husband Kenneth Thompson.

Burial will be in the Dubois Cemetery under the direction of Buck-Miller-Hahn Funeral Home.
