Conel Clive Layne
Conel Clive Layne of Tehachapi finished his battle with cancer at home on Sunday, Nov. 18, following his 88th birthday.
Born Nov. 16, 1924, in Preston, Idaho, he grew up in Utah and moved to California in 1942, where he met his sweetheart, Nadine. They were married between military leaves, later sealed in the Logan temple, Nov. 22, 1944. He served in the Marine Corps during WWII in the South Pacific and the Korean War, and began his career in general contracting in El Segundo upon his return.
His greatest joy was his family! He spent time with his family doing all the things he loved, including hunting, camping, scouting, motorcycling, woodworking, and playing cards.
Conel will be remembered for his service and devotion to his family, church, and contracting career. Anyone who knew Conel was touched by his quiet acts of service and love.
He is survived by his wife, Nadine Randall Layne; and children, Penny Sullivan (Kay), Craig Layne (Meri), Dan Layne (Laura), Pamela Anderson (Tom), Judianne Smith (Mark), and son-in-law Tyler Steenblik (Becky), 28 grandchildren; and 38 great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by two daughters. He is no doubt treasuring his reunion with his daughters, Denise Steenblik and Cindy Lu Layne.
He is survived by his sister, Bonnie Anna Brown (Merle) of Olympia, Wash. Preceded in death by his parents, Daniel and Mona Layne; and siblings, Elizabeth Delilah Kent (Bill), Richard Leland Layne (Ruby), Bud Alonzo Layne (Opal), and L. Dean Layne (Maxine).
