Robert James Dixon, Sr.
July 13, 1923 - August 21, 2014
Robert James Dixon. Sr. 91, returned to the Lord on Thursday afternoon, Aug. 21, 2014 in West Covina. He was ready to join his bride, Mildred, who had died just a year ago. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He was born July 13, 1923 in Colorado Springs, Colo. to loving parents, Graydon Glenn and Grace Lenore (Alkire) Dixon. He had two brothers and three sisters.
Robert’s family and heritage were of utmost importance in his life. His most precious moments were those spent with the ones he loved. Robert was proud of his service and loved this country, and always felt very fortunate with the life that was given him. He loved playing pinochle, eating watermelon, ice cream, fresh peaches and drinking coffee. Robert will be greatly missed and will be remembered fondly by his family and all who knew him.
Robert met the love of his life during the war years, she a nurse and he in the Army Air Force. They married in 1944. After moving many times they came to live in the Tehachapi area for over 16 years, before moving down to the greater Los Angeles area almost three years ago, to be closer to more family members, in their waning years.
Robert is survived by his 14 children: four sons, Robert and wife, Helene, of Chino Hills; Mike and wife, Kathy, of San Jose; David of Lakewood Ranch, Fla.; and James of San Francisco; ten daughters, Mary (Puncec) and husband, Joe of Sarasota, Fla.; Nancy (Vukich) and husband, Gerald of Tehachapi; Jean (Nels) of Mt. Shasta; Rita (Sholer) of Sacramento; Lois (Golden) and husband, Chris of Waldport, Ore.; Theresa (Bedoy) and husband, Raul of El Dorado Hills; Lucy Dixon of Sarasota, Fla.; Patty (Carter) and husband, Steve of Loomis; Julie (Mavis) and husband, Pat of Visalia; and Grace (Hall) and husband, Steve of Lafayette; two sisters, both living in Colorado: Doris Bonita Dixon (Blackie), Drusilla Rhea Dixon (Dave); a brother, also living in Colorado, Howard G. Dixon (Hazel); numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was predeceased by his parents; wife, Mildred; sister, Rose Marie Dixon; and brother, Donald J Dixon.
Divine Mercy Chaplet will be held at Forest Lawn Church of Our Heritage, Covina on Sept. 11, 2014. Funeral Mass will be held at Holy Name of Mary Catholic Church in San Dimas, on Sept. 12, 2014 attended by his sons, daughters, their spouses, grandchildren and great grandchildren and various family members from Colorado and friends with Internment at Riverside National Cemetery at 2:00 p.m. that same day.
