Jimmie Jewel Abbott
"Pa"
1930 – 2014

Jimmie Jewel Abbott, former resident of Frazier Park and Tehachapi, entered into rest on June 4, 2014.  He was 83 years old.  Jimmie “Pa” Abbott was born in Ringold, Okla., to Charley and Mary Abbott on Sept. 4, 1930. He was the oldest boy of seven siblings.

At a young age, Pa worked hard and played harder.  In order to support their family, he and his four brothers were self-taught musicians.  As they grew up and moved to California through the Great Depression, Pa met the love of his life, Mary “Banny.”  Banny and Pa had two children, Jimmie “Pete” and Brenda.  Pa worked very hard to support his family.  He and Banny began to play music together; later as Pete grew up, he joined them.  They were known for their southern country hymns with a honky-tonk flare.  Pa loved music, hunting, and fishing; most of all, he loved his family.

As a father, he led by strength and humor. As a grandfather, he spoiled his three granddaughters rotten.  Pa’s legacy continues through the lessons of love, family, and fishing.  He enjoyed sharing fishing stories and teaching his great-grandchildren to fish.  Pa is survived by his wife of 61 years, Mary; his two children, Pete and his wife, Diann, and Brenda; three granddaughters, Sunshine, Shannon, Stephanie and her husband, Rudy; seven great-grandchildren, Marques,  IyLeena, Lorraina, Kameron, Quinton, Logan, and Rudy Jr. He is also survived by his brother David and his wife, Suzanne.  Pa’s legacy is felt through immeasurable extended family, and friends, including Hoffmann Hospice Angels, who have become family.  He knew no stranger.  To know Pa is to LOVE him.

A public visitation is scheduled for Monday, June 9, 2014, from 4 p.m. To 7 p.m., at the Wood Family Funeral Service Chapel.  The funeral service will be held on Tuesday at the funeral home, followed by interment at Tehachapi Public Cemetery - Eastside.  Funeral arrangements are being handled by Wood Family Funeral Service, Inc.  For condolences please visit woodmortuary.net.
