Roger James Olsen
1938 — 2013
Sand Canyon resident Roger James Olsen passed away on Thursday, Oct. 24, in Bakersfield. He died one day shy of his 75th birthday. Roger was born in Los Angeles to James E. and Hazel (Smith) Olsen.
Proudly serving his country in the United States Army, Roger spent time in France and Germany. After his service to his country, Roger worked most of his life as a truck driver. For many years, he drove for Van DeCamps Bakery Company. After retirement, he moved with his wife, Pauline, and his mother-in-law, Virginia Drayton, to the Sand Canyon area of Tehachapi. He loved Tehachapi and made it his home for over 20 years.
He was a good neighbor to all, especially his best friend, neighbor and caretaker, Tony Hanna. He loved the outdoors, was a very hard worker and a good handyman. Most of all, he loved his two dogs and his cat. They were his best friends.
Roger leaves behind two brothers, Walter and Eugene Olsen, both of Oregon; and his son, Marty Olsen, who resides in Arizona. Roger will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
