1937-2012
Houston “Leon” King, 75, of Bakersfield, passed away on Nov. 15 at The Rehabilitation Center of Bakersfield. He was born Nov. 9, 1937 in Lone Grove, Ok. He was a 1957 graduate of Tehachapi High School and attended Bakersfield Junior College. Leon retired from the US Postal Service in 1997. Survivors include his wife, Pat, and son, William, of Bakersfield; sister, Terisa Edwards, and brother, Don, of Tehachapi, and sister, Vada Gilreath, of Iowa; an uncle, Norman Austin, of Tehachapi; and several cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Rebecca King, his sister, Donna Williford, and his parents, Harvey and Helen King. The family will host a wake to celebrate his life at a later date.
Leon's ability to find humor in daily life and share that humor will be greatly missed. He avidly pursued, and was accomplished, in his interest in chess, card games, dominoes, bowling, hunting and fishing.
