Evelyn Omega Wright
Evelyn Omega Wright went home to her Savior on Feb. 25. She had been staying with her daughter, Elnora, in Payson, Ariz. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, March 5, at her church home, First Baptist Church of Tehachapi, 1049 South Curry St. A viewing will begin at 10 a.m., followed by the funeral service at 11 a.m.
Evelyn was born May 2, 1919, in Paragould, Ark., to Louis and Grace (Holmes) Jamison. She married William Berlie Wright on August 19, 1938. They moved to California in 1939, spending the first few years in Bakersfield before moving to Sand Canyon, Cummings Valley, Brite Valley, and then into the city limits of Tehachapi. William preceded Evelyn in death on August 26, 2000.
Evelyn worked in the potato and cotton fields and did domestic work before she went to work at the Tehachapi Dry Cleaners in the mid-1950s, when it was located on “F” Street. She retired from there after 25-plus years.
She became a member of First Baptist Church on S. Curry St., Oct. 13, 1946. Attending church, being a Sunday school teacher, and just spending time with her immediate family and church family made her happy.
Evelyn is survived by her two daughters, Helen Marie Candalot of Tehachapi, and Elnora Lavern Kepler of Payson, Ariz.; sister, Wilma Smith of Flint, Mich.; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two great-great-granddaughters; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pastor Ron Barker will officiate at the service. Interment will take place at the Tehachapi Public Cemetery – Eastside. In lieu of flowers, should friends desire, contributions may be made to Optimal Hospice Foundation, 1315 Boughton Drive, Bakersfield, CA 93308.
Wood Family Funeral Service, Inc. will handle the funeral arrangements. For condolences please visit www.woodmortuary.net.
