Alice Catherine Coghlan née Huskins was born in Ferndale, Mich., on June 5, 1938, to Adrian and Pauline Huskins. She was raised in Burbank, where she attended Bellerman-Jefferson High School.
Alice married Garlin "Tex" Coghlan on Nov. 19, 1957. They settled in North Hollywood, where they raised their four children. Alice was active in the PTA, Cub Scouts, and Girl Scouts.
Alice and Tex relocated to Tehachapi in 1979. She worked as an office assistant at CCI from 1982 until her retirement in 2004. Alice was also active in the Special Olympics program in Kern County. She attended Bakersfield College and California State University, Bakersfield, taking night classes and graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Public Administration in 1996. In 2003, Alice helped to establish High Spirits Therapeutic Equestrian Program for children with special needs at their home in Brite Valley.
Alice is survived by three brothers, four children, six grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren.
A memorial service is scheduled for Thursday, Feb. 13, 2014, at 2 p.m., at the Wood Family Funeral Service Chapel in Tehachapi. For condolences please visit www.woodmortuary.net.
