Jack E. Kirkbride, Jr.
Jack E. Kirkbride, Jr., son of Jack E. Kirkbride, Sr. and Catherine McPherson Kirkbride, went home to be with our Heavenly Father on Sept. 28.
He was born in Santa Rosa, in February 1926 and spent his early years in Tulare. He then moved to Bakersfield and graduated from Bakersfield High School and lived there till he enlisted in the US Navy during World War II, serving on a ship and a submarine.
Jack married Norma Jean Sites in Bakersfield in 1947 and worked for the Southern California Gas Company in Oildale. He enjoyed life, his family and loved his golf. He was a 50 plus year member of the Masons, also a member of Scottish Rite.
The gas company transferred Jack to Tehachapi from Bakersfield and he was appointed to serve on their City Council and later he became the Mayor. He also served on the Tehachapi Chamber of Commerce and Kiwanis.
He moved to Visalia in 1978 and continued to work for he gas company until he retired in 1986. He loved his family very deeply and raised his children in the Bakersfield Church of Christ.
Jack is survived by his wife Jean and his two children, a daughter Brenda Lee Kirkbride, and a son Rod Alan Kirkbride, and one grand-daughter, Shannon Lee Chapman and her family.
Jack will be greatly missed. The family wants to extend special thanks to Evergreen Residence, Hospice and Quail Park, and also to their pastor, Neil Climer and members of D.O.C. Church. In lieu of flowers, please make memorials to Hospice Foundation and Kaweah Delta Hospital Foundation or your choice. No service is planned and burial will be private.
