William E. (Bill) Hessing
1930 – 2014
Bill Hessing and his wife, Nadine, moved to Tehachapi in October 1974 from San Diego. Bill was an Electronics Engineer. He was Quality Control Manager for Cubic Corporation, San Diego, in the 1960s and later, 1972, was Quality Control Manager for Ivac Corporation, San Marcos. In 1978, Bill was Quality Control Manager for PDI, Bakersfield.
Bill was an amateur radio operator for 30 years. While in Tehachapi, he was sanctioned by the FCC to teach and test those who were becoming amateur radio operators. Bill was one of the first members of the Southern Sierra Amateur Radio Society in Tehachapi.
Bill became disabled in 1979 as a result of brain surgery. He lost his ability to speak and other physical abilities. Bill and Nadine moved to McGregor, Texas in 1980, where Bill was an in-patient at the VA Medical Center in Temple, Texas. The Hessings returned to Tehachapi in 1983.
Bill was cared for at home until April 2013, when more intensive nursing care was needed. At the time of his passing, Bill had been in the care of Optimal Hospice for one year and an in-patient at Evergreen Healthcare facility in Arvin for 10 months.
The family is forever grateful to Optimal Hospice and Evergreen Healthcare, Arvin, for their loving care of their beloved husband, father, and grandfather. The family also appreciates the assistance of Wood Family Funeral Service, Inc.
Bill’s mother, father, two brothers, and one son passed before him. Bill is survived by his wife, Nadine; his son, Steven in California; and his daughter, Mrs. Toni Morrill in Washington; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Bill and Nadine would have celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in July 2014.
Bill was an honorable and respectable man who was loved dearly by his family and friends. Our hearts are missing a spark that belonged to him, but time will heal our tears.
