Gilbert Martinez passed away Thursday, Dec. 13, 2012 at his home in Tehachapi with his son and daughter by his side.
Gilbert was born in Los Angeles on Jan. 12, 1928. He served in both the Army and Air Force and was a proud World War II Veteran.
His passion in life was music and playing the Boogie Woogie piano.
Over the years he has played in many bars and clubs throughout the U.S. and can be seen on YouTube tickling the ivories as well.
Gil and his wife June lived in Tehachapi since 1980 and fell in love with the mountains, train whistles and charm. June preceded him in death in 2010. Gilbert is survived by his son Gil, Jr. and his daughter Jennie and extended family in Illinois, California, and caring friends and neighbors.
Gilbert had a wonderful quick wit, wry sense of humor and was always entertaining.
A celebration of his life will be held on his 85th birthday, Jan. 12 at 2 p.m. at the family home.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to PBS, Veteran’s Aid organizations or to a charity close to your heart.
