Teresa Ann Funderburk

1952 — 2012

Teresa Ann Funderburk passed away at 1 a.m. at Bakersfield Memorial Hospital on Oct. 11. Teresa’s wishes were for no services. A quiet gathering of family members will honor her memory at her home in Tehachapi.

Teresa was born in Atlantic, Iowa. She was the middle child of William Glenn and Beatrice Marie Lyons. Teresa attended the University of South Carolina, where she earned her nursing degree, and later on she received her bachelor and masters’ degrees in psychology from Coastal California University.

Teresa married her “pen pal” John Funderburk on June 12, 1971, in Las Vegas, Nev. At the time, John was in the United States Air Force stationed in Vietnam.

Teresa enjoyed sewing, reading and making jewelry. She attended the Gem Institute (GIA) in Carlsbad. Teresa was very gifted in her endeavors and leaves behind many items that will be cherished for many generations. While her husband was stationed in Germany, Teresa enjoyed traveling Europe as an Air Force wife. The highlight of her tour in Germany was a visit by her parents. They came to see her and their grandsons and they were able to travel through Austria, Germany, France, Switzerland, Italy, Belgium, Holland and Monaco. She later went back to Europe to show her son William where he was born.

Teresa leaves behind husband, John, and sons Justin, and William. William is married to Kylie Hendris and they have two beautiful daughters, Annabelle Marie and Allison Rose. She is also survived by her sister, Linda Kenny of Pennsylvania, numerous nieces and nephews, and her uncle, Dean Lyons, a WWII veteran.

She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, John David Lyons. Teresa was totally devoted to her family. She was a wonderful mother, sister, grandmother and most of all, a wife, friend, and companion. She will be and is missed by all who knew her.

The family would like to thank the staff at Bakersfield Memorial Hospital for their assistance in her last hours. The family would also like to thank CBCC and St. John’s Hospital in Santa Monica, for their thoughtful caring and support in her fight against cancer. Wood Family Funeral Service is handling the arrangements. Please support the “Fight Against Cancer” so that others may live.
