Lewis Edward Heide, Sr., a 38-year resident of the area, passed away peacefully at his home in Tehachapi on Saturday, Dec.17. He was 79 years old. A memorial service was held on Thursday, Dec. 22, at the Tehachapi Church of Christ, with a reception immediately following. He was buried at Bakersfield National Cemetery at 1:15 p.m. that afternoon. Minister Russ Lawson officiated.

Lewis was born in Oklahoma City, Okla., on Jan. 5, 1932.  His parents, who preceded him in death, were Frank Walter and Hattie Brinkley Heide.
Mr. Heide proudly served his country in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. He married the love of his life, Barbara Jean Bradford, on Dec. 13, 1958, in Winterhaven. They had just celebrated their 53rd wedding anniversary at the time of his passing. Lewis was an environmental technician working in avionics for 33 years. He spent 30 years of that time in civil service, retiring from Edwards Air Force Base, and then spent the three remaining years with Computer Science Corporation. During those years they lived in California City and Tehachapi.

Lewis is survived by his wife, Barbara; sons, Lewis and Trish Heide, Jr., and Kenneth and Debbie Heide; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; brother, Harold and Loretta Heide; 14 nieces and nephews; many cousins and longtime friends. He was preceded in death by his son, Mark Elliot Heide, on Oct. 17, 1992.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made in Lewis’ memory to the Wounded Veterans Fund. Wood Family Funeral Service has been entrusted with his care.

Wind Energy

  1. Planning down on the ranch

The news that the Pahnamid Wind Energy project has been withdrawn from the County Planning Office is good news to most of us up here on the mountain. After spending several million dollars between the City of Tehachapi’s General Plan, the County’s Specific Plan, and the Kern Council of Government’s “Blueprint,” it would be foolish to start making zoning changes at the first opportunity.
