Ida Mary St. John, 1935 — 2013

Ida Mary St. John
1935 — 2013

Massachusetts native Ida Mary St. John entered into rest on Friday, Oct. 4. She was 77 years old. Ida was born in Worcester on Nov. 8, 1935, to parents John Robert and Blanche Mary (Porter) Gedenberg. In 1955, she married Albert E. St. John. They migrated to California with their three eldest children in 1964, and were blessed with their youngest daughter a few years later.

Ida was a stay-at-home mom from 1957 until the late 1970s. With her husband she co-owned Panorama Paint Port in Newbury Park. Following that, she and her husband co-owned the Twin Oaks General Store in Twin Oaks. She was a dedicated and meticulous bookkeeper of both businesses.

Devoting her life to raising her four children, Ida involved herself with school, Scouts, and all other activities in which her children were involved. In her retirement years, she volunteered her services with The Salvation Army in Tehachapi and solicited donations for St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital. Ida always put other people’s needs in front of her own. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her, as she was a ray of sunshine in each of their lives. We love you, Mom.

Ida is survived by her four children, Cheryl St. John-Green, Sandra Bouldin, Albert St. John III, and Karen Owens. She is also survived by her sister, Florence Wynn, and brother, Robert Gedenberg. Ida had seven grandchildren, Eric McBride, Shaunna Barr, Gus Bouldin, Sara Bouldin, Becky Bouldin, Dane Owens, and Tyson Owens; and four great-grandchildren, Christopher and Nathan Barr, and Ryan and Lilyann McBride. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Blanche Gedenberg; and brother, Ernest Gedenberg.

The family has requested that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made in Ida's memory to: St. Jude Children's Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105, Tribute #34264210 or stjude.org/tributes; American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 22718, Oklahoma City, OK, 73123; Sharing and Caring, 203 S. Pauley St., Tehachapi, CA 93561; The Salvation Army, P.O. Box  1679, Tehachapi, CA 93581; or a charity of your choice.
