Harriet Elaine Terry

1923- 2012

Harriet passed away quietly in her sleep with her daughters by her side. Harriet was born and raised in South Dakota. She joined the Cadet Nurses Corp at 18, and was sent to work in Detroit, Michigan where she met her first husband. During her 65 year career as a registered nurse, she worked the jobs many others were unwilling to do. She enjoyed working the polio ward, TB ward, ER, ICU, Psych units at both the Men’s Central Jail and Camarillo State Hospital, LA County detox, AIDs units and Hospice care. She moved into her daughter Valinda’s home in 1992 to help start and run a Board and Care for the Elderly where she stayed till she passed away.

Harriet and Valinda traveled all over the world together enjoying the culture and beauty the different countries had to offer. Her favorites were Africa, Alaska, going through the Panama Canal, seeing Omaha Beach where her husband landed during WWII, and spending the Millennium at the Acropolis in Greece, just to name a few.

Harriet was preceded in death by her husbands James, John and Cleddie, brother Richard, her favorite cousin Carol, her daughters Cindy and Sandra, and graddaughter Rosemary. She is survived by her daughter Valinda Anderson, grandchildren Stacy and Wendy and great grandchildren Kayla, Dylan, Kristen and Clarissa. She is also survived by her daughter Candice Tripp, her grandchildren Cindy, Diane and Tina, 7 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild. She is also survived by sisters Mavis and Kathleen and brother Robert, and her favorite cousin Evie.

In all reality she made all her friends part of her family and many, many will miss her dearly.
