Cleta Mae Williams
1932 – 2014
Jan. 1, 2014, Cleta passed away at her home at the age of 81, with her family by her side.
The family will host a gathering in her memory on Jan. 25, 2014, at 2:00 p.m., at the Tehachapi Moose Lodge, 123 West F St., Tehachapi. All who knew and loved Cleta are invited to attend.
Cleta was born in Norton, Kan., to Marvin and Julia (Karnopp) Heitman on June 25, 1932. She spent most of her life in Kansas, graduated from Shawnee Mission High School, then met the love of her life, Edward Williams. They were married Jan. 11, 1952, in Olathe, Kan.; and they moved to California within a few months of being married. She was a Navy wife until Ed discharged from the Navy and they moved to Bakersfield, ending up in Tehachapi in 1965. There they raised their four children. Cleta worked in the cafeteria at the high school for the Tehachapi Unified School District until her retirement.
Cleta loved to travel with Ed, and they have been all over the United States, Canada, and Mexico. Her favorite place where she especially loved spending time was Merida, Yucatan, Mexico, at her sister Lynn’s house. It was always sunny and warm there!
Cleta’s family was a huge part of her life. She loved having everyone over and cooking up a big meal with a big apple pie for dessert. She very much spoiled her family … and nothing made her smile brighter than her grandchildren. She loved children and no matter where she went, she found a baby or a little one to talk to, and did everything she could to make them smile for her.
Cleta is survived by her husband of 64 years, Edward Williams; children, Marvin and his wife, Diana of Covington, La., Donald and his wife, Reese of Canby, Ore., Karen Williams of Tehachapi, and Lori Fife and husband, Gene of Tehachapi; 11 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Marie from Hoffmann Hospice for her loving care of both Cleta and the family. Wood Family Funeral Service has been entrusted with her care. For condolences please visit www.woodmortuary.net.
