David Lee Lance went home to be with the Lord on June 27, with family at his side. He suffered from Lung Cancer for several years but did not let it beat his Spirit.

David was born Oct. 24, 1935, in Coalgate, Okla., to Clifford and Eva Lorene Lance, the fourth of seven children.  

He moved to Bakersfield at a young age and attended East High School prior to joining the US Navy at age 17. He served for four years and was aboard the USS Enterprise.  He worked in construction most of his life, retiring in 1990.

In 2006 David and Eva moved to Bear Valley Springs, Tehachapi. His passions were building street rods, fishing and traveling. His travels took him through most of the world, his favorite being Crete, Greece, here he met and loved many of his wife’s relatives.

David was involved in his church working the Yiayia Booth at the Greek Food Festival many years before being baptized in 2006.  

Also he was a coach for Jack Frost Football and College Heights Youth Baseball. He was a past president of the Foothill Athletic Booster Club and was instrumental with his wife in starting bingo at Foothill High School as the major fund raiser for athletics which he worked weekly for l5 years. He and his wife were each awarded the Golden Trojan Award, lifetime pass to all Foothill High School home activities.

David was preceded in death by his parents as well as brothers, Bob, John and Larry Lance, sisters Pauline Williams, Alice Bothwell and sons, David Pat Lance and Jon Michael Serna.  

He is survived by his wife of nearly 43 years, Eva Tatarakis Lance, son, Ricky Lance, sister, Dean Cummings and husband Bob. He is also survived by two very special grandchildren, Jalin Serna and Ty Serna, numerous nieces, nephews and many special friends. He will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved him.

The family wishes to extend their gratitude to family, especially Dean and Bob Cummings, friends, neighbors and staff at Optimal Health Care and Hospice for their care, support and blessings.
 
A Trisagion  Service will be held at St. George Greek Orthodox Church, 401 Truxtun, Bakersfield at 7 p.m. on July 2. The funeral service will also be held at St. George Greek Orthodox Church presided by Father Joseph Chaffee, at 10 a.m. on July 3, with burial immediately following at Hillcrest Cemetery.
 
Pallbearers will be Mike Tatarakis, David Scott, Mike Williams, Bill Williams, Richard Allen and Paul Strategos. Honorary Pallbearers will be Nick Tatarakis, Mark Tatarakis, Bob Cummings, Jerry Cummings, Jim Meyer and Harry Chickelinis.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to St. George Greek Orthodox Church Memorial Fund or to your favorite charity.
