Joan Alice Rice
1938 — 2013
Joan Alice Rice of Stoughton, Mass., daughter of the late Gertrude and Fred McEachron, passed away Sept. 25, at the age of 74.
Joan was born on Nov. 13, 1938. She worked for the Brockton Public School System as a cafeteria manager until her retirement in 1994. After she retired, she moved to Tehachapi to fulfill her dream of living in the mountains and to be near her sisters.
During her years in Tehachapi, she worked happily 14 years for Bargain Cigarettes. She loved her job and the people she worked for; Sergio, Manuel, Serena and their families. Due to her failing health, her memories faded over the last years, but she always remembered how much she loved working there. Joan always said she wanted to go back to work, unfortunately for her and her customers, she was not able to.
Joan loved life and lived it to the fullest! She had no regrets and went out of this world exactly as she wanted – quickly, pain free and surrounded by her family. Her wit, sarcasm, feistiness, laugh, her yell, determination, strength, patriotism, mischievous bright eyes, honesty and passion for life will dearly be missed by all who knew her.
Joan passed away suddenly from cancer surrounded by her daughters and grandchildren. She is predeceased by her parents, Fred and Gertrude McEachron, brothers Paul, Donald and David McEachron and sister Regina Porreca. She is lovingly survived by her three daughters, Darlene Jones of Bridgewater, Mass., Sheila Jones of Cape Cod, Mass., Kim Rice-Bogdan of Saugus, and her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She is also survived by sisters MaryEllen Rolli of Tucson, Ariz., Faith Potter of Conway, S.C., Clare Cawood of Tucson, and Gail Joeft of Tehachapi.
Please join us for a celebration of her life on Saturday, Oct. 5 at 4 p.m. at Mountain Aire Estates Clubhouse, 600 S. Dennison Road.
