Marion “Russ” was born in Potter County, Texas, Jan. 4, 1930, to Marion R. Larson and his wife Erma Lois Larson (Priest). He passed away on Aug. 16, 2013 in Bakersfield of congestive heart failure.

Russell attended local schools in the Amarillo area and moved to California around 1946 to finish out high school at Jordan High School in Long Beach. He served in the Navy and was aboard the USS Salisbury Sound through the Korean War and ended his service in 1952 as a Petty Officer One.

He graduated college in Long Beach and after graduation became an accountant working at the Flintkote company in Los Angeles for more than 20 years before moving to Tehachapi to enjoy life in the country. Russell then worked in several sales positions including opening his own real estate company in Tehachapi in the 1970s before moving on to the Bakersfield area in early 2000.

Russell enjoyed singing and was in several choirs throughout his life, including the First Baptist Church in Tehachapi and the Masters Choral group in Los Angeles. In his later years he volunteered at several charities in and around the Bakersfield area with his wife of nine years, Maria.

Russell was preceded in death by his parents Marion Russell Larson Sr. of Long Beach, Erma Lois Larson (Priest) of Long Beach, his sister Erma J. Richardson of Alameda, and his nephew Ronald E. Richardson of Long Beach.

He is survived by his wife Maria Guerra-Larson of Bakersfield; children, Greg Larson and wife Dene of Murrieta, Jeff Larson of Bakersfield, Jill Greene and husband Monty of Tehachapi, and Gary Larson of Washington. Grandchildren, Elizabeth Hunt and husband Sean, Monica Mugo and husband Maina, Brandi Kendrick and husband Eric, Carolyn Larson, Katie Medina and husband Richard, Melanie Amador and husband John, Amber Larson, Koreen Rohlde, and Kyle Greene, and nine great-grandchildren.

A private service and internment were held at the National Cemetery in Bakersfield on Sept. 6.
