Tommy Joseph Stevens
1963 – 2012
Tommy Joseph Stevens was born on June 3, 1963, in San Diego. At the age of 49 he returned to his Lord peacefully on Dec. 8, at his home in Tehachapi.
A visitation was held on Sunday, Dec. 16 at the Wood Family Funeral Service chapel followed by a Vigil Service and recitation of the Rosary at St. Malachy Catholic Church. The Mass of the Resurrection was held on Monday, Dec. 17, also at the church. He will be laid to rest in Whittier, at Rose Hills Memorial Park on Tuesday, Dec. 18, at 1 p.m. where the Rite of Committal will be held.
Tom traveled much of his young life being part of a military family. His family settled in El Monte, where he graduated from Arroyo High School in 1981. He proudly served in the United States Navy from 1981 to 1985, on the USS Sperry (AS-12), USS Takelma (ATF-13), and the USS John Young (DD-973), being honorably discharged on September 17, 1985.
Always wanting to serve in law enforcement he was accepted into the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) in 1999. In 2004, he married the love of his life, Maria Estrada. He is survived by his spouse, Maria; his four adult stepchildren; and six grandchildren. Tommy is also survived by his mother, Norma L. Stevens; and sister and brother-in-law, Linda and Lee Hanley. He was preceded in death by his father, Tommy F. Stevens; and his sister, Karen Stevens Scott of Wisconsin. Tommy continues to be survived by extended family and friends throughout the states and CDCR family.
