Luz “Lucy” E. Montoya
1955 — 2012
Luz E. Montoya, “Lucy,” was 57 years old when she passed away on Sept. 21 in her home in Tehachapi. Services were held at St. Malachy Catholic Church on Saturday, Sept. 29. The Funeral Mass was officiated by Father Michael Cox, with music provided by organist, Lil LaGaly, and soloist, Mario Moreno.
Lucy was born in the winter of 1955 to Felix and Elena Herrera in Mojave. She had a very happy childhood growing up with her sister, Maria, and brother, Javier.
Lucy was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, mother-in-law, sister, aunt, cousin, niece, and friend. She had a huge heart. As soon as you were in her presence, you were instantly welcomed and made to feel like part of the family. She loved to cook and bake, so you always left her home with a smile on your face and a full stomach. Lucy was also known for her delicious cakes and cookies and loved baking with her daughter and grandchildren.
Lucy worked at CCI for the last five years as a Registered Dental Assistant. Before that, she worked with Dr. Markiewitz at his dental office in Tehachapi. She was passionate about her job and the people with whom she worked.
Lucy and her husband, Fernando, had a very good life together. They always enjoyed being surrounded by friends and family. They loved their trips to visit family in Mexicali and stopping in Palm Springs for a night or two.
Lucy is survived by her husband, Fernando Montoya; daughter, Elizabeth Franklin; son-in-law, Ty Franklin; granddaughter, Ella Blue Franklin; son, Fernando Montoya; daughter-in-law, Jehri Montoya; grandchildren, Elena Montoya, Mason Montoya, and Mason Johnson; as well as Lucy’s sister, Maria Garcia; and brother, Javier Herrera, and his wife, Mary Herrera.
Although Lucy left this world to join her parents in Heaven, her courage, strength, and loving heart will continue to live on within us all. Wood Family Funeral Service has been entrusted with her care. For condolences please visit www.woodmortuary.net.
