John R. Schuler
1951 – 2014
John R. Schuler went to be with the Lord on July 4, 2014, at the age of 62. He is survived by his wife, Fredricka (Riki); their two sons, John and Robert; as well as six grandchildren; and brothers, Michael and James.
Born on Oct. 19, 1951, in Daytona Beach, Fla., he grew up in Michigan, and after high school joined the Marine Corps. He was honorably discharged after two years and started dating Riki. They were married in August 1972.
With a desire to be an astronaut, he earned a degree in Mechanical Engineering from Western Michigan University in 1976. His career in aerospace led him to several companies and moves to Utah, California, and eventually Cape Canaveral, Fla., bringing him near the excitement of the Space Shuttle Program.
He served in the Air Force Reserve for eighteen years and retired with the rank of Major.
He changed paths later in his career, taking a job with the web team at Unisys Corporation, working at Edwards Air Force Base. This experience led him to start a web design business, Prospect Design Studio, which allowed him to express more of his creativity.
John was a Renaissance man with a love of history, art, classical music, and architecture. He spent much of his free time building furniture, models, and a multitude of other creative projects.
John had an infectious smile and was very personable. He truly cared about others’ well-being and spiritual health. He grew his faith deep with the Lord, and Christ’s love was clearly expressed through him, leaving an impression on those he came in contact with.
Services were held at Grace Fellowship Church in Tehachapi, CA. Interment was at Bakersfield National Cemetery in Arvin, CA, where the United States Air Force rendered Military Funeral Honors.
