Svein Arne Iversen, 1942-2014

Svein Arne Iversen, 1942-2014

It is with a heavy heart that the family of Svein Arne Iversen of Tehachapi, must inform of his passing. Svein went to be with our Lord and Savior on July 21, 2014. A memorial service was held for Svein on Friday, July 25th, at Wood Family Funeral Service at 2 p.m.

Svein was born in Honefoss, Norway, Feb. 7, 1942, one of eight children born to Olav and Johanne Iversen. Svein joined the Merchant Marines at the young age of 15, was brought back to Norway by his family at the age of 17, where he promptly joined the Norwegian Navy. After serving for two years, Svein again joined the Merchant Marines as a Marine Engineer and spent the next several years sailing the oceans of the world. He immigrated to the United States in 1967, met and married the late Jean Iversen.

Svein joined a local church where he gave his heart to our Lord and Savior. Never one to do anything halfheartedly, Svein studied and received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Biblical Theology. He was ordained in the Baptist faith. Although an Ordained Minister, Svein continued in the construction field as a Master Mechanic.

Svein’s work brought him to Tehachapi in 1983, employed with Modern Alloys. Modern Alloys (later Energrey) had a contract installing windmills in the expanding wind energy industry of Tehachapi. While working in Tehachapi, Svein met and married Margaret (Headley) Lewis, a widower with five boys. Svein was a true blessing to the Lewis family and lived the remainder of his life in the family home on the corner of “D” Street and Curry. Margaret is also an immigrant (from the United Kingdom), and during a trip to meet her family (in England), Svein decided he would like to learn to fly. Once again, never a man to do things halfheartedly, Svein not only became a pilot but also went on to become a licensed flight instructor.

A loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Svein is survived by his wife, Margaret; brother, Henry; sisters, Elsa, Gerd, and Liv; son, Erik; stepsons, Michael and John Wimmer, Donald, Robert, Bill and Rod Lewis; grandchildren from Don and Kathy Lewis, Michael and Sarah; grandchildren from Robert and Debbie Lewis, Brad, Ryan, and Jay; grandchildren from Bill and Carol Lewis, Joseph, Maranda, and Elizabeth; grandchildren from John and Lenore Lewis, Melissa and Jennifer; grandchild from Rod and Anna Lewis, Kalyca; great-grandchildren from Ryan and Rachel Lewis, Chase and Taylor; and great-grandchild from Brad and Jordan Lewis, Liam; in addition to so many members of his extended family, as well as friends.

Svein was preceded in death by his father and mother, Olav and Johanne Iversen; his beloved brother, Skjell; brothers, Oddvar and Olianne; and son, John Lewis.

Very rarely do you meet a man with such a diverse knowledge and experience as Svein Iversen. More importantly, very rarely do you meet a man with such strong moral character and highly developed sense of ethics. We, his family and friends, loved him very much and shall miss him terribly.
