Ralph Kermode, 74, of Bear Valley, passed away on August 17, 2014, at Bakersfield Heart Hospital. He was born on May 10, 1940, in Alhambra, to parents Chet & Marietta Kermode.

Ralph was a self-made businessman who, with only a high school diploma, owned and operated several successful companies in the rendering and recycling industry, including Ventura Rendering, W&H Grease Buyers, United Grease Company, and Cal-Vada Commodities.

After selling the last of his business interests in 2004, Ralph and his wife, Vicky, moved to Bear Valley, where he became involved in several community activities, including the Bear Valley Men’s Service Club and the Bear Valley CSD Public Safety and Communications Committees. Prior to his passing, he registered as a candidate for the upcoming Bear Valley CSD Board of Directors election. Driving his award winning, bright red, 1949 Mercury, Ralph was heavily involved in the Tehachapi Car Club, serving several times as the chairman for the annual Thunder on the Mountain Car Show.

A memorial service and reception was held on August 21, 2014, in the Wood Family Funeral Service Chapel, in Tehachapi, California. Ralph was laid to rest at Forest Lawn-Covina Hills on August 22, 2014, following a graveside service.

Ralph is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Vicky; his brother, Gary Kermode and wife Wilma; his son, Jeff Kermode and wife Debi; his daughters, Kim McBurney and husband Dave, and Tracy Murad and husband Jawed; grandsons, Doug McBurney and Shan Murad; and great-granddaughter, Kinsley McBurney.
