Dorothy Evelyn (Burke) Cocca, 94, passed away in Tehachapi, on Sept. 21. Visitation is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 28, at noon, at the Wood Family Funeral Service Chapel. The funeral service will follow at 1 p.m. Pastor Marvin Slifer will officiate. Private interment will be on Monday, Sept. 30, at Harbor Lawn Memorial Park, next to her husband Herbert, in Costa Mesa.

Joan Alice Rice of Stoughton, Mass., daughter of the late Gertrude and Fred McEachron, passed away Sept. 25, at the age of 74.
Archie Douglas "Doug" Miller
1936 — 2013
Doug was born on Sept. 20, 1936, in Lindsay, to his loving parents, Archie and Josefine Miller. Doug proudly served in the United States Army, serving in Stuttgart, Germany, as an MP and prison guard. He married the love of his life, Bonnie Root, on June 1, 1962. Doug and Bonnie were blessed with two sons, Doug and Greg Miller. Doug died Sept. 19.
Doug worked as a fireman for the City of Alhambra for 12 years, and they later moved to Tehachapi in 1987, where they both began their careers as correctional officers. Doug retired from California Correctional Institution in 2005.
Native New Yorker Evlyn Shoob entered into rest on Sept. 19. A memorial service was held on Tuesday, Sept. 24, at the Wood Family Funeral Service Chapel. Funeral arrangements were made with the assistance of Wood Family Funeral Service. For condolences please visit woodmortuary.net.

Nancy McColloch Andrews passed away in Glenwood Gardens on Thursday, Sept. 19, after a lengthy illness. She was a long-time resident of Stallion Springs.

The third annual Ryan Kieffe Memorial Scholarship in Philosophy was awarded May 30, 2013 at the University of California, Santa Cruz. Dean William Ladusaw of the Humanities Department awarded the scholarship to Yao Cheng Huang.
Eva Jane Winkler
Evan Jane Winkler, born Nov. 9, 1959, went to be with our Lord on Sept. 17 with family by her side after a long battle with cancer.
We will remember her most for her big, kind smile, her love of the beach and the time she spent there on her boat with Nick. We will remember her creativity and the love she had for her animals. We will especially remember the love she had for her two grandchildren and the joy they brought her.
Eva was a registered dental assistant for many years and touched the heart of many co-workers and patients. Most recently, she has managed the office for her and Nick's business, Integrity Glass.
Joseph Dean Huxman, 87, of Russell, Kan., died Monday, Sept. 16, at the Hays Medical Center in Hays, Kan.
Joe was born Dec. 24, 1925, in Pretty Prairie, Kan., the son of John Walter and Mryl (Bixler) Huxman. He grew up in Pretty Prairie, Kingman, Kan., Turan, Kan., and Alva, Okla. He attended high school in Natoma, Kan.

Ruth May Hudson was born on March 3, 1927, in Miami County, Kan., to Thomas and Daisy Endecott. She went to be with her Heavenly Father on Aug. 15.
She grew up in Drexel, Mo., and was the youngest of 10 children. She was raised on a farm and always loved a good meal with family and friends.
Ruth and her sister Mary came to California in their early years to work and have fun. She married James Monroe Hudson in 1952. After retiring from Mira Loma County Hospital in Lancaster, she starting quilting. She spent a few years with her sister Daisy in Placerville, quilting, canning fruit, and painting. She moved back to Bear Valley Springs where many family get-togethers were held. She loved birthdays at the beach with her grandkids or on a ski trip in the mountains, the Fourth of July, God and her country. She had a genuine concern and love for all her family and friends.
She is survived by one brother, Thomas Endecott, a World War II Veteran and German POW; her daughters, Debbie Hudson (Bob Dale), Sharon (Dave Farano), Connie (Jim McMinn, deceased) Janice (Steve Miles), nine grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life was held at the Bear Valley Church on Aug. 24.
A Time of Remembrance will be held for Paul David Kaplan, 78, of Alpine Forest on Sunday, Sept. 22, 2013, at 10:00 a.m., at Mountain Bible Church, 630 Maple Street, Tehachapi. Wood Family Funeral Service, Inc. has been entrusted with his care.
