Lorraine Beatrice Haley
1920 – 2013
Lorraine Beatrice Haley passed away peacefully in her sleep at home on Dec. 19, 2013, at the age of 93.
Born to a Danish mother and French Canadian father on July 26, 1920, Lorraine Beatrice Mailloux had a large extended family and two older brothers. Growing up in Bismarck, N.D., Lori was a pretty girl who became a beautiful woman with a penchant for style. This led her to a brief career as a licensed beautician. She later moved to South Dakota and worked 15 years as a telephone operator at Northwestern Bell.
Glen Arnold Rentchler
1928 – 2014
California native Glen Arnold Rentchler was born on Feb. 26, 1928, in Culver City and went to be with the Lord on Jan. 4, 2014, at the age of 85. He lived in the Antelope Valley and Tehachapi for the past 59 years.
Glen was a Navy veteran with six years of service, and an avid outdoor enthusiast. He worked in the food industry for 25 years before going into business as a tax preparer and consultant. He was also a member of the Shepherd of the Hills Church in Tehachapi, where he always enjoyed working with the youth.
Herman Lloyd Shuping
1921 – 2014
Shuping age 92, passed away Jan. 1, 2014 at the Antelope Valley Hospital. Shuping was born in Forgan, Okla., but lived most of his youth in Texas, graduating from Tipton High School in 1940 before moving to California. He served in the United States Air Force during World War II and also during the Korean Conflict. He retired from EAFB in 1976 after ;more than 30 years of service. He started a new career, in charge of the golf carts at the Horse Thief Golf and Country Club of Stallion Springs outside of Tehachapi, that lasted an additional 20 years; however whenever one of his friends came by, he had no trouble closing up shop and accompanying them for a round of golf. He moved back to Lancaster in 2001 where he resided until his death.
Shuping had four children from his first marriage to Doris Kimbro; H.L. Shuping Jr. (Charlene); Nancy (Bill) Clark; Rodney Shuping (Gail) and John Shuping (Stephanie). Shuping is survived by his wife of 42 years, Barbara Payne Shuping and her three children, Stephen Wilkison (Carole); Susan Wilkison Bond (Paul) and Denise Shuping Hall. Also surviving are 13 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren; a brother, RV Shuping of Merced. He is preceded by his sister Helen Pilcher. A celebration of Shupe's Life was held on his 92nd birthday, Oct. 13, 2013 at Christ Our Savior United Methodist Church in Quartz Hill followed by a reception attended by many members of his family, friends from workplace and friends from his duplicate Bridge Club. Shupe played duplicate bridge twice a week until his final two and one-half months. No further services will be held.
Edward Rolf Jacobsen
1938 – 2013
Edward Rolf Jacobsen passed away on Dec. 1, 2013 in Yakima, Wash., a week after having a cardiac arrest and just five days before his 75th birthday.
He was born in Twin Falls, Idaho on Dec. 6, 1938 and grew up as an adventurous and inquisitive child in Tehachapi. He was always willing to build and try everything. In high school, he played football and graduated from Tehachapi High School. He truly was a sweetheart for his small, close community. Everyone knew and loved “Little Eddie.” Well, everyone except for at least one poor teacher who had to put up with too much of his mischief and maybe a few of his church leaders who had a hard time answering all of his questions.

Cleta Mae Williams of Tehachapi entered into rest on Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2014. She was 81 years old. A Celebration of Life will be scheduled at a later date. Barbara Kay Hayes, 67, of Tehachapi passed away on Saturday, Dec. 28, 2013, at Tehachapi Hospital. Interment was at Bakersfield National Cemetery, Arvin on Friday, Jan. 3, 2014, at 9:15 a.m., with a memorial service that followed at Tehachapi Moose Lodge #1678 at 11 a.m.

Fern Jacqueline Conner passed away at her home in Tehachapi, on Jan. 1, 2014, with several members of her family by her side. She was 86. A Celebration of Life is planned for Tuesday, Jan. 7, 2014, at 11:30 a.m. at Wood Family Funeral Service Chapel. Interment will follow at Tehachapi Public Cemetery - Eastside.
Fern was born in San Saba, Texas, on March 20, 1927, to Oscar “Jack” and Nellie Grace Cothren. She was the youngest of four children and had two brothers, Oscar and Rube, and one sister, Delphine. She left home when she was 14 and worked as a waitress on the naval base at Corpus Christi, Texas. While living in Corpus Christi, she was married two times and had a son by each of her marriages.

Guy Allen Lee of Tehachapi entered into rest on Dec. 17. He was 71 years old. A funeral service was held on Friday, Dec. 27, at the Wood Family Funeral Service Chapel. Pastor Kevin Caudle officiated the service. Burial followed at the Tehachapi Public Cemetery - Eastside.
