Since Jan. 1, it has been illegal in the state of California for public schools to use the name Redskins as a school nickname. Four schools statewide are affected. Two schools have switched names to The Tribe, one has switched to The Reds and one school has abandoned nicknames all together. I hope our own Tehachapi High School logo is not the next to fall.

Meanwhile, sanctuary cities like San Francisco are still legal in the state, where a young woman named Kathryn “Kate” Steinle was brutally gunned down and murdered by a person in the country illegally who had been deported from the country no fewer than six times. Glad to see we finally have our priorities straight.

Oh, and denim became the official state fabric as well. Outstanding!
