Tehachapi Food & Wine Festival
With a mere 250 guests, the Tehachapi Food and Wine Festival had a humble start in 2007 as the Taste of Tehachapi. Created by Anthony McDemas in collaboration with the City of Tehachapi and Main Street Tehachapi, the festival was part of the city’s Independence Day festivities. The festival quickly grew and in it’s third year was moved to it’s own date on the first Saturday of August where it has been ever since. The festival has grown to attract several thousand people from the Bakersfield area, the Antelope Valley and is now a regional draw. Originally just eight restaurant and one winery the festival now offers fare from more than 25 restaurants and 25 wineries. A myriad of activities are now part of the festival from a fine arts gallery featuring local artists, to a "Farm to Fork" Chef Demonstration which combine fresh local  produce being prepared on stage by celebrity chefs from Southern California. A "Man-Cave" offers port wine and a cigar lounge, and with three venues of music, entertainment abounds. Next year’s festival on Saturday, August 3, 2013, will offer new surprises which will add to the many attractions. The Tehachapi Food & Wine Festival also spawned an entire weekend of fun dubbed the "Discover Tehachapi Weekend" which features the Tehachapi Poker Trail that helps locals and visitors weave their way through venues ranging from Mountain Valley Gliderport to Souza Family Vineyard. The Tehachapi Food and Wine Festival is proud to include numerous non-profit and community organizations from the Kiwanis to the Greater Tehachapi Economic Development Council.
