Road closures and evacuations related to the Canyon Fire remain in place.
The Tehachapi News reported earlier that some Old West Fire residents were allowed to return to their homes. This was unofficial information based upon the fact that some property owners did enter the closed area -- however, information officers with the fire note that this was not "allowed."
A transition from Kern County Fire Dept. management to management of the fire by an Incident Command team under CalFire is taking place and updated information is expected to be released soon. Once this transition takes place we expect to be able to provide periodic updates of official information and will continue our bringing verified unofficial information of interest.
In the meantime, fire officials note that even if there are no official vehicles at a road closure sign, the road closures remain in place. Hundreds of fire vehicles are moving about the area and the closures are in place for the safety of the public and firefighters.
