Consideration of the proposed Walmart super center in Tehachapi will likely come in January according to information presented to the Tehachapi Planning Commission at its meeting Nov. 9.
The commission’s regular monthly meeting on that date was well-attended and lasted 40 minutes with all commissioners present. A public hearing on proposed addition to St. Malachy Catholic Church was the only item on the agenda.
Community Development Director David James presented an explanation of the project and recommended approval on behalf of city staff. The project will include the addition of rest rooms, compliance with ADA requirements and a cry room for parents to take children and still be able to see and hear the service.
Arin Resnicke, architect for the project from Golden Empire Design, Inc., responded to questions from the commission concerning plan labeling.
The commission approved a CEQA exemption under Section 15301 and Resolution 2010-03 to construct the 1,544 square foot addition by a 5-0 vote.
James then advised the commission that the EIR for Walmart is about ready to be presented to them. He also pointed out that all commissioners should be present for that presentation. The commission determined that the Jan. 13 meeting will include that presentation, as all of the commissioners can be present.
The next scheduled meeting of the commission is at 6 p.m. on Dec. 13 at the BeeKay Theater.
