On May 19, the Tehachapi City Council will finish the public hearing it started on March 28 on an appeal of the Planning Commission’s vote to approve the construction of a Walmart Supercenter in Tehachapi.
The continued hearing will be May 19, 2011, at 6 p.m. at the Tehachapi High School Gymnasium, 801 South Dennison Road.
The city has published a Notice of Continuance of the March 28 public hearing, which stopped short of a vote after four hours of consultant presentations and public speakers when city attorney Tom Schroeter said documents challenging the construction had been delivered to City Hall that day.
The city and its environmental consultants were obliged to answer the questions raised by the documents, submitted by Upland attorney Corey Briggs on behalf of CREED-21.
Community Development Director David James, his staff and environmental consultants have been working on responses to the issues raised by the documents.
Local businessman Henry Schaeffer filed the appeal of the Planning Commission’s 4-1 vote Jan. 31 to approve the application by Walmart and to certify the project’s Environmental Impact Report.
